Pavia – A Sunday morning unlike any other awaits Pavia. Michele Lissia , mayor of the Lombardy city and head of a center-left government, has announced that next Sunday he will run through the city streets carrying a Palestinian flag .
“It will be a sign of closeness and solidarity with the Palestinian people, victims of a brutal massacre and dealing with an ongoing humanitarian tragedy ,” Lissia emphasized on his Instagram profile, explaining the reasons for the symbolic gesture.
The mayor's race will start at 7 a.m. from the Visconti Castle in Pavia, specifically on the side of Via XI Febbraio . Lissia will cover approximately 10 kilometers following the route of the CorriPavia , the running event traditionally held in the autumn.
Elia Belli, his spokesperson, will accompany the mayor on his initiative. "We'll try to maintain a pace of 5 minutes per kilometer," Lissia explained, opening the door to participation: "Anyone who wants to join can do so on foot or by bike."
The initiative represents a unique way to express solidarity through sport, transforming a simple morning run into a moment of awareness on an important international issue.
